Australia Day Awards
Each year, the Glamorgan Spring Bay Australia Day Awards honour residents and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to our region. Nominations are accepted across several categories ahead of the Australia Day ceremony in late January.
Please note nominations are not currently open.
Who can be nominated
- Australian citizens who are residents of the Glamorgan Spring Bay municipality
- For the Community Event of the Year — events held in the municipality during the previous calendar year
- For the Spirit of the Community Award — groups based in or substantially serving the municipality
- Current Glamorgan Spring Bay councillors and council employees are not eligible for awards relating to their official role
How nominations are judged
A selection panel reviews nominations against published criteria for each category. The panel considers the nominee’s contribution, the impact of their work, and the strength of the supporting case made by the nominator.
How to nominate
- Download the Australia Day Awards Nomination Form from Forms & documents, or request a printed copy from Council.
- Write a clear, specific nomination — what the person or group has done, who benefits, and over what period.
- Attach supporting statements from people familiar with the work where possible.
- Return the form by email email or by post to PO Box 6, Triabunna TAS 7190.
The Australia Day ceremony
Awards are presented at our annual Australia Day ceremony. The ceremony includes a citizenship ceremony for new Australian citizens, the awards presentation and a community gathering.
Reflecting on Australia Day
We acknowledge that Australia Day means different things to different people — a day to celebrate citizenship and community for many, and a day of mourning for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our ceremonies aim to be inclusive of both perspectives, with an Acknowledgement of Country and respect for the Traditional Owners of the lands and waters of our region.
