Emergency Management
In a life-threatening emergency, always call Triple Zero (000). For current bushfire, flood and storm information, visit TasALERT.
Tasmania’s east coast has a real and recurring emergency risk profile — bushfire, flood, coastal hazards and severe storms. Council’s role is to plan, prepare and coordinate with State agencies so our community is ready.
Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP)
Council’s Municipal Emergency Management Plan is the framework for how we prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies in the municipality. The current plan is available in the documents panel below.
Bushfire
Large parts of Glamorgan Spring Bay are bushfire-prone. Before the fire season:
- Make a Bushfire Survival Plan — see fire.tas.gov.au/Bushfire-Ready
- Clear gutters, trim vegetation and prepare an emergency kit
- Know the TFS Alert Levels — Advice, Watch & Act, Emergency Warning
- Register for TasALERT notifications at alert.tas.gov.au
Fire permit periods are declared by the Tasmania Fire Service each season — see fire.tas.gov.au for current declarations and permit applications
Flood
The Prosser River, Apsley River and tributaries can flood quickly in heavy rain. Council’s current flood study and inundation mapping are available in the documents panel below.
Storm and coastal hazards
Coastal storm surge and erosion affect parts of the Triabunna–Orford coast. Council’s Coastal Hazards Report (available in the documents panel) describes current risks and adaptation directions.
Evacuation centres and relief
In a declared emergency, council-designated evacuation centre locations will be announced on TasALERT and via council’s social channels. A standing list of centres and capacities is maintained with Tasmania Police and the State Emergency Service.
Recovery
After an emergency, council works with the Tasmania Government, the Red Cross and community organisations to support recovery — property clean-up, financial assistance referrals, and community information sessions.
