Every business selling food in our municipality must be registered with us under the Food Act 2003. You’ll need a Certificate of Registration before you start selling food.

Register a food business

1. Complete the Food Business Notification & Registration form
2. Return the form to Council with any supporting documents.
3. Pay the registration fee.
4. We assess your application and issue a Certificate of Registration before you start trading.

Temporary food stalls

If you’re selling food at a temporary stall — a market stall, fete, festival or community event — you must register with us.

Lodge the temporary food stall form at least two weeks before the event.

Mobile food vans

A mobile food business operates from a mobile structure. Under the Food Act 2003, a mobile structure includes a vehicle, trailer, cart, tent, stall, booth, table, barbecue, pizza oven or other structure not permanently fixed to a building, structure or land, where food is handled or sold. Mobile food businesses must be registered with us.

Food safety audits

Food businesses are registered in our database and audited regularly to make sure they comply with the Food Act 2003 and the Food Standards Code of Australia. Our Environmental Health Officer will work with you so you know what to expect — early advice usually means a smoother audit.

Food safety complaints

If you experience or observe unsafe food handling at a business in our municipality, you can let us know by using the online Complaint form, or by writing to Council via email or post. Include the business name, location, date and time, and a description of what you saw.
