Planning FAQ
Quick answers to the planning questions our team is asked most often.
Where can I view current planning applications?
Currently advertised applications are listed on our Advertiesed Plans page, and the full application can be inspected at the Triabunna Council Offices during normal opening hours.
How do I apply for a change of use to visitor accommodation?
Lodge a planning application using the Planning Application Form. Include a floor plan with measurements of the floor space, a recent search of the folio plan and text, and any other supporting documents listed on the form. Our planning team can advise on what else may be needed for your specific situation.
My neighbour and I disagree about a boundary fence. Can Council help?
Boundary fence disputes — including who pays for the fence or what materials are used — are civil disputes. Council cannot intervene. Tasmania Legal Aid has a useful fact sheet on boundary fences and the Tasmanian Fences Act 1965.
There’s a problem with a neighbour’s tree. Can Council help?
If the tree is on private property — not public land — and isn’t a potential fire hazard, it’s also a civil dispute, and Council cannot intervene. Tasmania Legal Aid has a fact sheet covering common issues.
I want to build a dam. What should I do?
Most dams need a dam permit from the Tasmanian Government. Contact the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania on 1300 368 550 or email water.enquiries@nre.tas.gov.au. If your dam is part of a wider development proposal, talk to our planning team as well.
