About Us
Glamorgan Spring Bay Council is the local government body for Tasmania’s central east coast. Our municipality stretches from north of Bicheno down past Orford and Triabunna, and inland to the eastern tiers. We are one of Tasmania’s 29 local councils, governed by the Local Government Act 1993.
What we do
Council’s role is to deliver the local services and infrastructure our communities rely on, including:
- Roads, footpaths, stormwater and bridges — around 1,100 km of local road network
- Waste collection, transfer stations, recycling and litter management
- Planning and building approvals, enforcement and compliance
- Community facilities — halls, parks, sports grounds, playgrounds, boat ramps, jetties
- Environmental management, biosecurity, coastal and natural resource programs
- Emergency management planning with the State Emergency Service and Tasmania Fire Service
- Economic development, tourism support and community grants
- Customer services, rates collection and regulatory services (animal management, food safety, public health)
